These rolls are everything — soft, slightly sweet, and topped with the coziest honey-oat flavor that somehow makes them perfect for both weeknight dinners and holiday tables. They’re buttery, fluffy, and honestly... dangerously addictive straight out of the oven.

This is my go-to dinner roll recipe when I want something that tastes homemade but doesn’t require me to babysit the dough. The bread machine does the heavy lifting, and you get 12 perfect golden rolls to slather with butter, dip in soup, or sandwich with leftovers.

Instructions

  1. Add Ingredients to Bread Machine
In the order listed, add the warm milk, softened butter, eggs, honey, salt, and oats to the bread machine basket. Then add 3 cups of flour, and top with the yeast. Select the dough setting & press start!

💡 Tip: Start with 3 cups of flour and watch the dough. As the machine mixes, slowly add more flour (up to 4 cups total) until a soft dough ball forms that isn’t sticky to the touch.

  2. Let Dough Cycle Run
Once the dough forms a ball, close the lid and let the dough cycle run fully (usually about 90 minutes, depending on your machine).

  3. Shape the Rolls
When the cycle ends, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a clean surface. Divide into 12 equal portions and shape into rolls. Place in a greased baking dish or sheet pan, cover with a clean towel, and let proof for 45 minutes.

  4. Bake
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls are puffy, brush with a light egg wash (1 egg beaten with a splash of water) for that golden top.
Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. Finish & Serve
Brush with melted butter while still warm. Serve immediately or cool completely before storing.

Storage Instructions

  • Fridge: Store cooled rolls in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Reheat briefly in the oven or microwave to soften before serving.

  • Freezer: Freeze fully baked and cooled rolls in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge or at room temp, then warm in the oven at 325°F for 5–10 minutes before serving.
